How to Look At (perceive) History - Seol, Hyeshim

The table of contents of the book

I'm reading this book now. Although the content is pretty much academically focused, its value is proven in that it presents various methodologies for interpreting history. As a historian, the author herself teaches at a school, and also has published several books. Meantime, she reveals vivid situations and contemporary trends  in the middle of that arena. Which happens to be a great deal of joy as I'm reading through this book.

I was personally interested in the concept of microhistory that is verifiable and adds imagination to historical facts. In a simple term, it was a matter of interpretation of events that took place in history. And it was an effort to arrange the contents based on what or from what point of view, and how to diagnose the overall flow. Then, basically, I found that there was no huge difference from looking back and forth about my own life that had passed as I was getting older. And also I felt the weight of a commom denominator for improving that the trial effort to explain and find some wise lessons is strongly connected and shared.

By the time the book is finished, I do not know what's left and marked on my memory. But if my humble gaze at the trajectory of my personal life becomes more refined and elevated with the aid of a methodology that studies history, there is nothing more to be desired for.

Much more than I expected, history speaks for itself so much in silence.
