Humor
I prefer to speak with a great sense of humor if I could. And also I am fully aware that it is not that easy, lots of spaces for misunderstanding. But sometimes, the words are coming out instantly before I have a total control over what I mean by that. The result is so tragic that I got stuck in the middle of nowhere to explain what I am trying to get at.
This is a true story, based upon my experiences lately.
I was appraised to show some excellency in doing something and was told to extend my talent up to a public level. Of course, it was merely a piece of rhetorical flourishes that are widely spread among people in the form of civilized and socialized gestures. I did not mean to offend at all by saying with a shameful smile "Well, to me, it is a matter of vanity and uselessness." The immediate response was "And then, what I am doing is useless. That is what you mean, isn't it ?" with a furious voice.
I am getting a vegetable box everyday from the cafe I spend time a lot. In the middle of talking, I was told "I am usually preparing various vegetables on Monday that requires to go shopping and to do extra works." I said "That is why I got a Friday box, not fresh enough." And the next thing I was told "How could you say something like that. I am putting extra time and energy just for your vegetable boxes, at least an hour every day." with an urgent voice.
It was not my intention at all, to be understood like that. What I was trying to say was something in slightly hidden sense of humor, unconsciously. But apparently, it did not work.
Hard to communicate indeed.
